While adjusting to the CV-19 situation we will be reducing risk to the public by conducting all of our classroom work online in advance of the course and then meeting outside in small groups for the field portions. The AIARE 1 is a three-day / 24-hour introduction to avalanche hazard management.

Avalanche Safety Level 2. Our AIARE 2 course provides higher level backcountry training and advances avalanche decision-making skills. The AIARE 2 is a three-day course for those who have taken an AIARE 1 and Avalanche Rescue and have had at least a year of backcountry travel experience. AIARE is an approved avalanche education provider and takes the guidelines developed by AAA and has developed rigorous, standardized training and curriculum for both pro courses and rec courses which is evidence-based. Our level 1 class covers a lot of information, so plan on long days that begin early and end in the early evening. Due to Covid, we are transitioning to the online learning AIARE module. For most groups, this will mean learning much of the didactic material of the course through self paced, online learning. The AIARE 1 is a three-day / 24-hour introduction to avalanche hazard management. Students can expect to develop a good grounding in how to prepare for and carry out a backcountry trip, to understand basic decision making while in the field, and to learn rescue techniques required to find and dig up a buried person (if an avalanche occurs and someone in the party is caught).
